Studying in Australia is increasingly getting popular. The students have a choice from about 38 universities and a number of colleges and TAFE (vocational) colleges, Business & Special studies colleges, Foundation and Secondary colleges. The range of programmes offered is varied with enough choice of subjects.The mode of application could be directly, through the High Commission, agents and of course IDP Education Australia. The cost of education varies and the scholarship available to foreign students are limited. The average fees for undergraduate studies could be between A$7,500 to A$26,000 per annum. The cost of living depends on the city or town with average expenses being in the range of A$10,000 to A$13,000 per annum. Accommodation facilities can be had either on-campus (in residential colleges) or off-campus in home stay with family, share house etc.. Part time employment, a student visa holder is allowed for 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations, however there is no guarantee of work in Australia. Academic Session, the academic year runs approximately from February to November, split up as Feb - June and July - November. Institutions do offer mid-year July admissions.
